IPOH: SMK Methodist (ACS) Ipoh will be organising its 74th annual theatre performance this year, entitled Aladdin.
Teacher Foo Suit Mooi said the public could expect entertaining songs and dances, colourful costumes and a large dose of humour and wit from this year's production.
"A total of 80 cast and crew, comprising Form Three, Four and Six students, are participating in the event.
"They have been practising hard to prepare for the show since November last year," she said recently.
Foo said the performance was based on the well-loved tale of Aladdin and the Magic Lamp from the Arabian Nights.
"The show will feature characters, Aladdin and the evil sorcerer, Ja'afar, competing to outwit each other to possess the magical lamp with the wish-granting genie.
"There won't be a magic carpet but the audience will be in for a laughing good time," she said.
The main protagonist character, Aladdin, will be played by Form Four student, Haniff Harussani.
Form Six student, B. Shamsunthar will play Ja'afar while another Form Six student Robin Lee will take on the magical genie character.
Foo pointed out that the school had had a long history of producing plays that ranged from Broadway musicals to Shakespearean dramas including The King and I and Macbeth.
"This has provided a much needed platform for the students to express their creative faculties and receive a rich and wholesome school experience.
"The funds collected from the public performance goes into the maintenance and refurbishment of the school," she said.
The performance will be held on April 13, 14 and 15 at 8pm in SMK ACS's school auditorium.
Tickets are available at RM10, RM20 and RM50.
